Farmers and Fishermen: Easiest Way to E-Pay Your Taxes? The New IRS Direct Pay Tool

With the March 2 tax deadline looming for many farmers and fishermen, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is reminding filers that the new IRS Direct Pay tools offers the fastest and easiest way to pay taxes owed.

This free online tool – available at IRS.gov/directpay, allows individuals to securely pay their income tax directly from checking or savings accounts without any fees or pre-registration required. This helpful tool allows users to quickly pay the amount due on their return or tax bill, or even make quarterly estimated tax payments without writing a check, buying stamps, or finding a mailbox. Additionally, payments can be scheduled up to 30 days in advance.

Direct Pay is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and any taxpayer who uses the tool receives instant confirmation that their payment was submitted. It’s important to note that Direct Pay cannot be used to pay the federal highway use tax, payroll taxes or other business taxes. In addition, farmers and fishermen who chose to forgo making quarterly estimated tax payments for 2014 generally must file their 2014 federal return and pay any tax due by Monday, March 2, 2015.
